My only beef with these thermometers is that they are not easily calibrated. Most people will put them in a boiling water bath and adjust them to 212 degrees. The adjustment screw is on the back of the thermo, and so you have to pull out the thermo before you can make the adjustment, so you are actually adjusting as the temperature is cooling down. It takes a couple of tries to get it right on the money, but other than that, these seem to work fine on my smoker. They have held their calibration through a few weeks of smoking everything from boston butts to turkey legs.

I ordered two because they were in stock and it is summer. The thermometers work fine both read boiling water at correct temperature - they are suppose to. they fog up and are hard to read but color code helps. This company took two weeks to get them to me , now understand they are round mechanical thermometers in blister packs. I do not understand why it took so long to fill - read that ship an item that was in stock. It felt like i was being punished for not paying more for shipping - never again. Buy it at a local retailer.

I replaced my old thermometer that woked for years with this one. I had purchased a Polder dual probe just before but both probes failed in short order. I don't know if their high temp (not ss braided) had anything to do with it. This therm is easy to use and I really like that you can over ride the pre-selected meat temps and that you are not restricted to some low temp like 199 degF. This allows you to bbq/smoke meats to 205 degF and to check your grill temp like 225 or 250 degF.
The only thing I would like is to be able to defeat the alarm. Otherwise I highly recommend it.

The Maverick RediCheck Remote features a transmitter that reads the internal food temperature with a digital electronic food probe, then sends that information wirelessly up to 100 feet away, freeing you from standing next to the oven or grill during the cooking period. When the desired temperature is reached an alarm goes off. Place the transmitter near the oven or grill. Insert the tip of the Food Probe into the center of the food being cooked, and run the probe's lead wire out through the door connecting to the transmitter. The wire is flexible metal sheath and is rated for over 500 degrees F., and isn't hurt by closing the door. The receiver picks up the signal, and displays: the actual internal food temperature, the "set" or target desired temperature, and the type of meat. I've had mine for over five years and it has always worked like a champ. For poultry, I always check the temperature with an instant read to confirm for safety and it has always been spot on temperature-wise.

My only complaint is the range...if I carry it too far from a window/sliding door on the back of the house, I lose the signal. I have learned to leave it sit on the window sill or table by the door. I can still hear it alarm when the right temperature is reached and can see the current temp from across the room if I'm tracking the temp for some reason.

I must have a smaller version of this meat thermometer because mine isn't quite the size of this one mentioned. First of all let me say that I own a Kitchen-Aid blender, two mixers, food processor, stove, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator -- so I obviously like the brand. This thermometer is cheaply made and the thin glass broke after two uses (not from dropping). The needle jiggles when you insert it. Oh yeah it has a "No hassle warranty". Good luck finding out how to submit a claim on their website -- not that I want a replacement anyway. My supermarket thermometer at 1/3 the cost is far superior in every way.

this thermometer looks very professional, and it's face is very readable and helpful, and it cleans off very easily. However, the probe is quite long, and it will not register an accurate temperature unless you sink the entire probe into your meat. This is very hard to do with smaller cuts, due to the size of this beast. I overcooked a small pork roast AND a roasting chicken before realizing the problem.

This thermometer takes some time to come up to temperature and it's hard to find the correct spot on the metal to get a good reading. This makes it less than ideal for steaks since by the time the temperature gets to medium rare your steak will be well done. Inaccurate - John Alabaster -
I bought two of these for dutch oven cooking. One of them reads 200 degrees sitting on the table in 50 degree weather. The other one reads 150 degrees. The flat wire under the outside button is not well calibrated and reads consistently low when in place on the oven. Also the magnet is too weak to hold the unit on a vertical surface. This thermometer has one main purpose, to read temperature and it doesn't.

I bought a Taylor just like this but is was a square oval shape but same design. It worked fine the first time but quickly the face would darken and then get smoked...cleaning only removed the letter...light cleaning just so I could read. One time it got to hot and never came down on to the scale again. This was in an oven so it had to be less than 550 or so.

Numbers came off face of thermometer during 1st use - K. Cathey - Oklahoma
The theory of this thermometer was wonderful, and I thought it would be great to use in my Weber Smoky Mountain smoker to determine the temp right at the grill level. Two hours into the cook, running at about 225 degrees, I lifted the lid to baste and picked up the thermometer to wipe the smoky residue off the face to make it easier to see whilst looking through the top vent of the smoker. I was shocked to see that the numbers on the dial come right off onto the damp towel that I was using! Not on one, but on both thermometers. I have no idea if this is normal, and I know that Taylor usually has an excellent reputation, but if this low heat causes the ink to release, how does it work on really hot grills???

I may have gotten a few from a bad batch, and I have already contacted Taylor about this problem.

As usual, your mileage may vary, but this was my experience.
